Despite having our own train station, we're remote. This means the standard is Norwegian cozy: simple, clean and warm. But we're also trying to be epic! We generate our own hydropower and roast our own coffee on the premises.

  • Year-round sauna and heated swimming pool in the summer

  • Spacious yoga cabin with wooden walls and mountain views

  • Real wood-fired pizza oven from Italy, café and coffee roastery

Plus spectacular hiking, skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, trail running, paragliding, alpine trad climbing, cross-country, and more…

A history of community

A history of

community

In 1939, students from 20 different nations came together to build Mjølfjell Ungdomsherberge as the first volunteer-built hostel of its kind. Near a remote railway deep in the mountains of western Norway, it was envisioned as a place to explore nature, adventure and collaboration.

After WWII, Mjølfjell welcomed a new generation of community during an era of rejuvenation that included building its own power plant. In 1947, Peer Lorentz Dahl painted the murals in our main lodge as inspired by the life of Norwegian Arctic explorer Fridtjof Nansen.
