Hung on racks in Arctic wind and pale sun, the dried stockfish needed no salt or packaging, yet kept for years. It fed the Vikings, fueled Hanseatic trade, and traveled around the globe during the age of European exploration. A simple fish from a remote land that shaped the modern world.
